The Coastal Carpet Python is the largest of the coastal pythons. As wilth all pythons, it is a non-venomous contrictor. They are heavy bodied snakes, with distinctive triangular-shaped heads. They have light undersides and a blotchy pattern on their upper. Adult Coastal Carpet Pythons are easy to handle and calm, while juveniles are a bit snappy.
Distribution & Habitat:
Found from in northeastern New South Wales and along the coast of Queensland. They have been found west of the Great Dividing Range.
Diet:
mammals (rodents, possums, etc), as well as reptiles, frogs and small birds.
Breeding:
The females lay between 20 and 30 eggs per clutch. They incubate the eggs by coiling around them and shivering to keep the eggs warm for a period of 55 or so days. Once the eggs have hatched, maternal care ceases.
