A truely famous Australian mammal, capable of flying through the air with their enormous leaps (10 metres with a single jump), these fantastic creatures are a true icon and are the kangaroos most often seen by tourists visiting the Eastern States where they preside.
Distribution & Habitat:
All up and along the East of Australia, Tasmaina and the Australian mainline from the corner of Victoria and South Australia all the way up to Northern Queensland. Found on open plains and in woodlands and forests.
Diet:
Grases, Trees, shrubs, herbs and flowers.
Breeding:
Reaching maturity before 2 years of age, the Kangaroos have a boistrous mating season which sees the females gestate for around 30 days or so. Thereafter the tiny unformed joey after being born works its way into the puch where it latches onto a specially formed nipple and t hen stays there for almost a year. The mother often has numerous joeys being looked after in series.
