Southwestern Carpet Python ( Morelia spilota imbricata )

The Southwestern Carpet Python is closely related to other Carpet Pythons and the Australian Diamond Python families. They tend to have a dark brown base color and a splotchy pattern of contrasting pale blotches. The Southwestern Carpet Python has a clearly defined neck and can grow up to 2.3 metres long. Females can be up to four times larger than their male counterparts. These snakes like to hide and move slowly to keep themselves obscure.

Distribution & Habitat:

Foud in Souhtwest Australia in mediterranean to semi-arid climate zones.

Diet:

reptiles, lizards, birds and small marsupials including wallabies.

Breeding:

Females lay eggs and incubate them by coiling around them and contracting their muscles (shivering) to create heat. Maternal care ends when hatchlings emerge from their eggs.

Life Span:

The Southwestern Carpet Python is a large venous snake found in the southern areas of Western Australia.

Not Threatened
